Round 2 of the European Championship and the Fantic Factory Racing EMX riders showed once again great potential, but were unable to fully realize it in the races held in difficult conditions due to the unstable weather. Just before the start of race 1 of the 125, a heavy downpour hit the Saint-Jean-d’Angély track, making it particularly treacherous. Francesco Bellei, new entry of the Fantic Factory Racing EMX, got off to a good start on his Fantic XX 125, remaining in the fight for the whole race in the top 5 and finishing with a solid fifth place. His teammate Douwe Van Mechgelen was also consistently in the top 10, but a crash with five laps to go dropped him to 17th position.
Race 2 was held once again in the mud under light rain. Despite a less brilliant start than race 1, Bellei was fully in the fight for the podium of the day. However, in very difficult conditions, he was forced to take off his glasses and visibility problems slowed him down, preventing him from expressing his full speed. The seventh place in the heats and the eighth position in the overall, in fact, do not fully reflect the potential of the young rider from Trentino. It was also a complicated race for Van Mechgelen, who finished in 20th place both in the heats and in the daily standings. In the general championship standings, Bellei occupies sixth position, just 20 points from the top.
EMX250 rookie Simone Mancini showed great speed right from the start on the ups and downs of the beautiful French track of Saint-Jean-d’Angély. Second in free practice and second in his qualifying group, the Fantic Factory Racing EMX rider lined up third at the starting gate and had a great start aboard his Fantic XXF 250, fighting for the top positions right from the start in race 1. The 17-year-old from Le Marche held third place for the first third of the heat, before giving up a position, but still took a great fourth place, making no mistakes on a track made treacherous by unpredictable weather.
In race 2, Mancini started just outside the top 10, but quickly recovered ground to move up to seventh place and close the gap to the riders fighting for the top 5. However, with four laps to go, he was forced to retire. A contact in the early stages of the race damaged an electric cable, preventing him from finishing the heat. An unfortunate episode that however does not erase the speed and great potential shown by the young Italian driver throughout the weekend, which he nevertheless closed with an eighth place overall.
Francesco Bellei:
“The two races were quite challenging because of the very heavy ground. I’m not satisfied with the result of this weekend and I’m not happy with how I rode. I definitely need to continue working in view of the next round in Riola. If we want to look on the bright side, we still brought home some points for the championship standings, being 20 points from the first.”
Simone Mancini:
“I had a great feeling with the track and the bike all weekend. The retirement in race 2 was not needed, but we showed some good things, especially in terms of speed. I was very satisfied with Saturday, I felt good. Now we need to be able to do two good races to get the result we deserve, even if, despite the bad luck, today I still finished eighth overall.”

Round 2 del Campionato Europeo e i piloti del Fantic Factory Racing EMX hanno mostrato ancora una volta ottime potenzialità, senza però riuscire a concretizzarle appieno nelle gare disputate in condizioni difficili a causa del meteo instabile. Proprio prima del via di gara 1 della 125, un forte rovescio si è abbattuto sulla pista di Saint-Jean-d’Angély, rendendola particolarmente insidiosa. Francesco Bellei, new entry del Fantic Factory Racing EMX, è scattato bene in sella alla sua Fantic XX 125, rimanendo in lotta per tutta la gara nella top 5 e chiudendo con un solido quinto posto. Anche il suo compagno di squadra Douwe Van Mechgelen si trovava stabilmente nella top 10, ma una caduta a cinque giri dal termine lo ha fatto retrocedere fino alla 17esima posizione.
Gara 2 si è svolta ancora una volta nel fango sotto una leggera pioggia. Nonostante una partenza meno brillante rispetto a gara 1, Bellei era pienamente in lotta per il podio di giornata. Tuttavia, in condizioni molto difficili, è stato costretto a togliersi gli occhiali e i problemi di visibilità lo hanno rallentato, impedendogli di esprimere al massimo la sua velocità. Il settimo posto di manche e l’ottava posizione nell’assoluta, infatti, non riflettono appieno il potenziale del giovane pilota trentino. Gara complicata anche per Van Mechgelen, che ha chiuso al 20° posto sia in manche che nella classifica di giornata. Nella classifica generale di campionato, Bellei occupa la sesta posizione, a soli 20 punti dalla vetta.
Simone Mancini, rookie della EMX250, ha dimostrato un’ottima velocità fin dalle prime prove sui saliscendi dello splendido tracciato francese di Saint-Jean-d’Angély. Secondo nelle prove libere e secondo nel suo gruppo di qualifica, il pilota del Fantic Factory Racing EMX si è schierato terzo al cancello di partenza e ha avuto un ottimo spunto in sella alla sua Fantic XXF 250, lottando fin da subito per le posizioni di vertice in gara 1. Il diciassettenne marchigiano ha mantenuto la terza piazza per il primo terzo di manche, prima di cedere una posizione, ma ha comunque conquistato un ottimo quarto posto, senza commettere errori su un tracciato reso insidioso dal meteo imprevedibile.
In gara 2, Mancini è partito appena fuori dalla top 10, ma ha rapidamente recuperato terreno portandosi al settimo posto e riducendo il distacco dai piloti in lotta per la top 5. Tuttavia, a quattro giri dal termine, è stato costretto al ritiro. Un contatto nelle prime fasi di gara aveva danneggiato un cavo elettrico, impedendogli di concludere la manche. Un episodio sfortunato che però non cancella la velocità e il grande potenziale mostrato dal giovane pilota italiano durante tutto il weekend, chiuso comunque con un ottavo posto nell’assoluta di giornata.
Francesco Bellei:
“Le due gare sono state piuttosto impegnative a causa del terreno molto pesante. Non sono soddisfatto del risultato di questo weekend e non sono contento di come ho guidato. Devo sicuramente continuare a lavorare in vista della prossima tappa a Riola. Se vogliamo vedere il lato positivo, abbiamo comunque portato a casa qualche punto per la classifica di campionato, essendo a 20 punti dal primo.”
Simone Mancini:
“Ho avuto un ottimo feeling con la pista e la moto per tutto il weekend. Non ci voleva il ritiro in gara 2, ma abbiamo dimostrato delle buone cose, soprattutto in termini di velocità. Sono stato molto soddisfatto della giornata di sabato, mi sono sentito bene. Ora dobbiamo riuscire a fare due buone gare per ottenere il risultato che meritiamo, anche se, nonostante la sfortuna, oggi ho comunque concluso ottavo assoluto.”
