The red soil of Águeda hosted the fifth round of the 2024 FIM Motocross World Championship and the third stop for the EMX series. Heavy rainfall throughout the weekend turned the MXGP of Portugal into a mudfest. in the premier class while Noel Zanocz put Fantic on the box in the EMX125 European Championship
Fantic topped both EMX125 qualifying sessions thanks to Noel Zanocz and Simone Mancini, with the Hungarian rider grabbing the pole position. Douwe Van Mechgelen was 12th in his group.
At the start of the first moto, Noel Zanocz pulled away on his Fantic XX 125 and went on to lead every single lap on his way to his second race win of the season. Unfortunately, Mancini’s first moto was affected by an issue at the start. The winner of the GP in Arco had to chase the field and worked his way up till P15 showing a strong race pace. Van Mechgelen crashed twice in tough conditions, ending up without points.
Race 2 on Sunday morning saw Zanocz get another solid start, he got into second place in the first lap and kept the position until the chequered flag. Mancini bounced back with an impressive third-place finish and Van Mechgelen fought his way into 11th place. 1-2 results placed Zanocz on the second step of the podium with the same points score as the winner, which also means he maintains the red plate and an eight-point advantage in the championship.
Noel Zanocz: “It was another good weekend. I secured the pole on Saturday and led the first moto from start to finish. In the second moto, I was third at the start but I lost a few positions at the second corner. I was in P6 but managed to move up to second in the first lap. I struggled a bit with the visibility in these difficult conditions, I tried to attack anyway but I ended up second. I still hold the red plate by eight points and we are going to Spain now to keep going this way or to do even better.”
Simone Mancini: “On the one hand it was a good weekend, on the other it was also a bit unlucky. I was fastest in my qualifying group on Saturday but, unfortunately, had a problem at the start of race 1. I only got going way after the others but still managed to come back to P15. Sunday’s race was good, even if the start was not ideal but I salvaged it well in the first two corners. I was running around fourth place for a while before getting back to third in the end.

Le qualifiche hanno visto i piloti del Team Fantic in sella alla XX 125 assoluti protagonisti. Noel Zanocz e Simone Mancini hanno fatto segnare i migliori tempi nei loro gruppi, con la pole position nelle mani del pilota ungherese. Douwe Van Mechgelen ha chiuso con il 12° tempo.
Al via della prima manche Noel Zanocz è partito fortissimo, si è portato subito al comando e ha vinto la gara con un grande vantaggio sugli inseguitori. Mancini purtroppo ha avuto un piccolo problema in partenza, ripartito in ultima posizione e molto attardato ha messo in mostra una grande rimonta fino alla 15° piazza finale. Van Mechgelen invece è stato rallentato da due cadute in condizioni veramente difficili.
In gara 2, Zanocz è riuscito ad avere un buono spunto in partenza, nel corso del primo giro è salito in seconda posizione che è riuscito a tenere fino alla bandiera a scacchi. Ottima manche anche di Simone Manciniche ha tenuto un ottimo passo che gli è valsa la terza posizione finale. Van Mechgelen ha chiuso la sua manche in undicesima piazza. Noel Zanocz grazie ai due ottimi risultati è salito sul secondo gradino del podio a pari punti con il vincitore ed è ancora stabilmente tabella rossa di leader di campionato.
Noel Zanocz: “È stato un altro bel weekend. Sabato ho conquistato la pole e nella prima manche sono stato in testa dal primo all’ultimo giro. Nella seconda sono partito terzo ma ho perso qualche posizione alla seconda curva. Mi sono ritrovato sesto ma sono riuscito a riportarmi in seconda posizione nel corso del primo giro. Dopo ho avuto un po’ di problemi di visibilità in queste condizioni veramente difficili, ho cercato di attaccare comunque ma sono arrivato secondo. Sono sempre in testa al campionato con otto punti di vantaggio. Adesso andiamo in Spagna per ripeterci o fare ancora meglio.”
Simone Mancini: “È stato un weekend da un parte bello ma dall’altra anche un po’ sfortunato. Sabato ho fatto il miglior tempo nel mio gruppo. Purtroppo in gara ho avuto un problema in partenza. Sono ripartito dopo tanto ma sono comunque riuscito a recuperare fino alla quindicesima posizione. Domenica invece è andata abbastanza bene, non sono partito benissimo ma mi sono salvato alle prime due curve. Ero attorno alla quarta e quinta posizione per un po’, sono tornato su e sono riuscito a finire terzo.”
