Francesco Bellei made it clear that he is at home in Arco di Trento, setting the fastest time in free practice and taking a beautiful pole position in front of the Italian crowd. He also showed impressive pace in race 1 on the Fantic XX 125. The Trentino talent was in full battle for first place when he made contact with his opponent and both ended up on the ground, losing precious ground. Bellei still managed to finish fifth, keeping his hopes of a podium intact.
With rain arriving overnight, conditions changed for race 2 on Sunday. Bellei still proved to be comfortable on home soil. Starting just outside the top ten, he quickly moved into the top 5. He remained calm and maintained a solid and consistent pace. He was also good at taking advantage of some mistakes by his opponents and crossed the finish line in second place, thus taking third place overall – and his first podium as a Fantic Factory Racing EMX rider, missing out on victory by just two points. In the championship standings, the Trentino talent has taken another step forward and is now in second place.
A complicated weekend for his teammate Douwe Van Mechgelen. Due to a crash in race 1 and a problem in race 2, the young Belgian left Trentino with a double zero.
In the 250, rookie Simone Mancini provided great emotions, author of a masterful race 2. Starting strong aboard the Fantic XXF 250, he moved into the top positions right from the start and began chasing the race leader, until making a decisive overtaking in the final, unleashing stadium-like cheering and going on to win his first heat in the highly-competitive EMX250 category. A victory that not only brought him to sixth place in the overall standings, but also boosted morale after an unlucky Saturday, with a heavy fall in free practice and a retirement in race 1 due to a small technical problem.
Francesco Bellei:
“All in all it was a good weekend, I’m happy with the speed and the driving, especially on Saturday: I was first in free practice, first in qualifying and overall pole position, and I also had great speed in the first race. Unfortunately a big mistake prevented me from winning the heat. On Sunday I had a solid race, finishing second and third overall. It’s clear that I would have liked to win here at home, but we’ve brought home even more experience, step by step we’re getting there.”
Simone Mancini:
“The weekend didn’t start well, with the big crash in free practice and the retirement in race 1, but we made up for it in the second heat. Finally a great result arrived, my first heat win in the European 250. I started there in front, I tried to keep a constant pace, I felt good physically and in the last laps I took the lead and went on to win the heat. This victory really boosts morale after an unlucky start to the season, now let’s hope it’s one of many! I thank the whole team for the work done and all the fans for their support, there was a cheering that I can’t even describe.”
Campionato Europeo ad Arco di Trento
Con la pioggia arrivata durante la notte, le condizioni sono cambiate per gara 2 della domenica. Bellei si è dimostrato comunque a suo agio sul terreno di casa. Partito appena fuori dai primi dieci, in pochissimo tempo si è portato in top 5. È rimasto tranquillo e ha mantenuto un ritmo solido e costante. È stato bravo anche ad approfittare di qualche sbavatura dei suoi avversari e ha tagliato il traguardo in seconda posizione, conquistando così il terzo posto assoluto – e il suo primo podio da pilota Fantic Factory Racing EMX, sfiorando la vittoria per soli due punti. Nella classifica di campionato, il talento trentino ha fatto un altro passo in avanti e si trova ora in seconda posizione.
Weekend complicato invece per il suo compagno di squadra Douwe Van Mechgelen. A causa di una caduta in gara 1 e un problema in gara 2, il giovane belga ha lasciato il Trentino con un doppio zero.
Nella 250, ha regalato grandi emozioni il rookie Simone Mancini, autore di una gara 2 magistrale. Partito forte in sella alla Fantic XXF 250, si è portato nelle primissime posizioni fin dall’inizio e si è messo ad inseguire il leader della corsa, fino ad effettuare un sorpasso decisivo nel finale, scatenando un tifo da stadio ed andando a vincere la sua prima manche nella combattutissima categoria EMX250. Una vittoria che non lo ha solo portato al sesto posto nella classifica assoluta, ma che fa anche morale dopo un sabato sfortunato, con una caduta pesante nelle probe libere e un ritiro in gara 1 a causa di un piccolo problema tecnico.
Francesco Bellei:
“Tutto sommato è stato un buon weekend, sono contento a livello di velocità e guida, soprattutto nella giornata di sabato: ho fatto primo nelle prove libere, primo nelle qualifiche e pole position totale, ed anche nella prima gara avevo un’ottima velocità. Purtroppo un grande errore non mi ha permesso di vincere la manche. Domenica ho fatto una gara solida, finendo secondo e terzo assoluto. È chiaro che mi sarebbe piaciuto vincere qui a casa, ma abbiamo portato a casa ancora più esperienza, step by step arriviamo.”
Simone Mancini:
“Il weekend non era partito bene, con la forte caduta nelle prove libere e il ritiro in gara 1, ma ci siamo rifatti nella seconda manche. Finalmente è arrivato un grande risultato, la mia prima vittoria di manche nell’Europeo 250. Sono partito lì davanti, ho cercato di mantenere un ritmo costante, mi sentivo bene fisicamente e negli ultimi giri sono passato in testa e sono andato a vincere la manche. Questa vittoria fa veramente tanto morale dopo un inizio stagionale sfortunato, ora speriamo che sia una di tante! Ringrazio tutto il team per il lavoro svolto e tutto il pubblico per il supporto, c’è stato un tifo che non riesco nemmeno a descrivere.”
